India is the seventh-largest country in the world. It is located in the northern hemisphere of the Asia continent. It is a land of vast geographical expanse. In the north, it is bounded by the lofty Himalayas, the Arabian Sea in the west, the Bay of Bengal in the East, and the Indian Ocean in the south, that’s why India is called a subcontinent because it has a natural boundary from all the sides of the country.

India has an area of about 3.28 million sq. km. From “` North to South it extent from Kashmir to Kanyakumari is about 3,200 km.

and from east to west extent from Arunachal Pradesh to Kuchchh is about 2,900 km. It has a coastline of over 6,500 (7,500 km. including the island boundaries) and a land boundary of 15,200 km. This great land has various landforms including The lofty mountains, the great Indian Desert, the Northern Plains, uneven plateaus, coasts, and islands. There is great variety in culture, climate, vegetation, wildlife, and language. There are beautiful valleys hills, plateaus, deserts, and a number of islands. The southern part of India is a peninsula.

India is divided into 28 states 9union territories. the capital of India is New Delhi. there are 7 countries that share land boundaries with India. they are the neighboring countries of India. they are Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan Myanmar china. Srilanka and Maldives are the neighboring countries that share water boundaries with India.

India is located in the southern part of Asia. The Tropic of cancer 23°26′ N passes through the country, from South to North it extends between 8°4’N to 37°6’N latitudes and from West to East it extends between 68°7′ E to 97°25’E longitudes. The local time of longitude of  82°30’E has been taken as the Indian Standard Time. This meridian or Longitude is also termed the Standard Meridian of India.

India is a vast country with varied land features, this different physical features of India divide it into five divisions.

  • The Great mountains of the North
  • The North Plains
  • The Great Indian Desert
  • The Peninsular plateau
  • Coastal Plains and islands
